Motherhood asks us to wear so many different hats. This evening is an opportunity to make a little room for yourself—to slow down, experience art, create something with your own hands, and connect with other moms.

Throughout the evening, we’ll explore selected pieces from the Perfectly Unique collection, share meaningful conversation around identity and motherhood, and create our own artwork through an intuitive mark-making experience led by Sareka.

No artistic experience is necessary. Come as you are and create.

Perfectly Unique is a portrait collection celebrating the individuality of women and girls in Sareka Unique’s life.

Through expressive faces, bold color, pattern, and intuitive mark-making, each portrait celebrates the qualities that make its subject distinctly herself.

During Mom’s Night Out, you’ll have the opportunity to experience selected pieces from the collection while hearing more about the stories and creative process behind them.

Sareka Unique

Sareka Unique is an artist and gallery owner known for vibrant, intuitive artwork centered around joy, individuality, color, and creative expression. Her work encourages people to embrace what makes them unique and make more room for creativity and joy in everyday life.

Gabrielle L. Peterson

Gabrielle L. Peterson is a Doctoral Candidate in Sociology at the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor and creator of the Minority Motherwork Project. Gabrielle will help facilitate the evening’s conversation around motherhood and identity.

Guests who are interested will also have an opportunity to learn more about the Minority Motherwork Project and Gabrielle’s research.

Do I need to know how to paint?

Not at all! No artistic experience is necessary. The creative experience is about exploration and expression—not perfection.

Are supplies included?

Yes. Everything you need for the evening’s creative activity will be provided.

Can I come by myself?

Absolutely! Mom’s Night Out is designed to be a welcoming space where you can meet and connect with other moms.

Can I bring a friend?

Yes! We’d love for you to come together. Each guest should register individually so we can plan appropriately.

Is childcare provided?

Childcare will not be available for this event.

What should I wear?

Come comfortable and ready to create. Since we’ll be working with art materials, we recommend wearing something you won’t mind getting a little creative in.
